The Yarsuvat & Yarsuvat Law Firm is an independent, local law firm located at the European side of Istanbul. Our obsession with quality control, and across-the-board knowledge of all clients and their business, requires us to limit the headcount of our lawyers, not to exceed fifteen. Thus, we are a law boutique. At the top of the pyramid are the senior lawyers, with practice records ranging from twenty to fifty years. Their experience and influence guide the energy and creativity of the younger generation of lawyers, who are the future of our Firm. In line with our clients’ business, inbound and outbound, we established a working relationship with leading law firms in various jurisdictions. For over twenty years we have also been the local member of an international network of independent law firms. Our practice is primarily in English and in Turkish, but we do speak French, Italian and German, to add some color to the mosaic.
We are proud to have on our roster second and third generations of a family of lawyers, who preserve the heritage and traditions of (arguably) the oldest Turkish law firm. That being said, many of our lawyers, with last names other than Yarsuvat, have started their law carreer with us, and over the years, built on the traditions passed on by their mentors.
We render a complete range of business law services. We cater to the day-to-day needs of our clients’ business in Turkey. If the international parent of our local client entrusts us with corporate secretarial work, we do it. If directors face directors’ liability claims, we defend them.
If a CEO negotiates a strategic partnership, we support his/her negotiations. That being said, we do not hold ourselves to be experts in anything. Yes, we do M&A work – who doesn’t these days? We do not distinguish ourselves with what we do, but with how we do it.
Our function is similar to that of an in-house legal department. If a matter requires a specific expertise, with which we are not fully comfortable, we will put together a team with the necessary expertise, and supervise. We want our clients to take comfort in the fact that they are dealing with the same people, familiar faces and a familiar style, irrespective of what the matter at hand may be.
Approximately three-quarters of our business are inbound. We advise investors looking into a Turkish venture or business with a Turkish party. In most cases, we continue to advise the client’s Turkish venture, post-closing. The remaining part of our business is outbound, where we represent Turkish clients in regard to their business abroad.
Inbound matters often require close collaboration with the client’s project- or international counsel, who coordinate the overall transaction. In contrast, in outbound matters, we often recruit and instruct counsel in the relevant jurisdictions to handle local legal work, while we oversee the project in its entirety.
Does size matter? No. We don’t have a preference for client- or transaction size criteria. As a result of this approach, our client and transaction portfolio include closely-held companies with limited international experience, who seek a reliable partner to advise and guide them in less-charted waters. At the same time, our portfolio includes multinationals, who expect their legal advisors to meet a tough standard of responsiveness and quality of work.
Our offices are in Maslak, at the heart of Istanbul’s business center on the European side of town. Istanbul’s notorious traffic is seldom a bother, as we are steps away from access to the subway. While internet-age meetings are often held online, and require minimal human contact, we like -and actually insist- to see our clients. To provide you with an additional incentive for a visit, our offices boast a spectacular view.
